KENZI HAUS

Branding / Identity / Merch / Advertising

Branding an indie record label.

Challenge

Kenzi Haus came to us with carts banche on this project. A group of dudes committed to supporting new and upcoming artists in the Hamilton, ON area. The label was started as a side project by the members of a local band to create a community of artists supporting each other in launching their music out into the world. The challenge was really to create something simple and stripped back that would make it easy for the classic DIY mentality of the punk scene to run with a professional identity that would help them book and promote shows, gain investment and become a driving force in the Hamilton music scene. This is an ongoing project where we continue to produce gig and promo posters for the group.

Solution

We designed the mark to reflect the old record stores we hung out in as kids and the classic rock radio stations that got us into music. Channeling our inner 90's kid we used a classic type style paired with a bold contemporary icon design. The goal was to create a nostalgic brand with an identity that works as much on a letterhead as it does in street art and sticker bomb applications.

The posters are illustrated by Dave Dick and generally produced using classic printmaking techniques such as silk screen and letter press to dial up the nostalgia and keep the tactile nature of old school production alive.
