Growing a family business through a pandemic, and beyond.

Challenge

A family owned and operated restaurant for the last 20 years, Coyote’s was hit hard by the pandemic. Known for their customer service and the local community’s love for the owner Ed, Coyote’s had relocated to a downtown Yellowknife venue and was not only further away from their customer base but also in an area where they were competing directly with other big brand establishments. Coyote’s needed to find new ways to serve their customers and remain top of mind during a time when everyone was just dealing with the impact of lockdowns.

How might we increase revenue for a business that historically relies on in-house patronage? How do you help a restaurant grow when you can’t have more than 25 people in the restaurant?

Solution

A strategic family oriented brand position paired with a consistent in house experience and a marketing strategy to squeeze zero dollars out of a strapped operating budget. Coyote’s took a stand that family should be spending time together and not worrying about cooking. A personal family focused message from Ed to Yellowknife and media placements that engaged with the local community, celebrating the legacy of this family business in the north, and a campaign that centred the idea that family is the most important thing in tough times. We helped Coyote’s take bold action in their market to cause transformational results.
